Our
archery black bear has clearly become one of our most popular hunts due
to the tremendous number of oversized bears with 10+ bear sighting being
common and a realistic 100% opportunity at Pope and Young bears, it is
obvious why this hunt is so popular.
Glenn Cunningham of P.A. started his archery career off with a bang
by taking 2 bears, 7' plus, Pope and Young with his first 2 arrows launched
at animals. Robert Miller on his fourth bear hunt after a 500lb. bear
got the job done on a skinny 526 lb. Brown with a blonde sash on his
shoulder. An excellent shot stopped this bear 30 yards from the bait.
Richard Fowlkes of Texas harvested 2 bears that were 7'+ boomers. All
of these bear hunts were guided by our Senior Bear Guide Marcelin Bruneau.
We maintained our average of one 7' + bear per week, 18 bears 18"
or larger skulls and 52% coloured other than black. We had 3 unsuccessful
hunters in 1995 and all were in search of the elusive 7'+ Bear (our
average was 6'1" 231lbs.).
The only down note to Bear Hunting in 1995 was way -- way to many missed
or wounded Bears, with 17 + on the Spring Hunt. Please practice with
your weapon of choice at 20 yards to eliminate this extremely frustrating
situation. (Bearpaw will be strictly enforcing our Wounded Bear Policy
in 1996).
