Spring 2008 BLACK BEAR
Bearpaw has just completed another successful Spring Bear Season. We had 29 hunters and harvested 47 bears for another 150 %+ success season.
Our first hunt this year was hampered by cold wet weather as a result of a late April snowfall that slowed bear movement.
From the 10th of May on, there was an abundance of bears on bait with 40 – 45 baits active daily.
The average sightings per hunter was 6, with a low of 4 and a high of 47!
Quality was exceptional with 8 bears exceeding the magic 7 foot mark. 21 Bears were over 6 foot 6 inches and only 6 bears measured under 6 feet. The average bear taken was 6’4”.
Colored numbers remained steady with approximately 1/3 of the harvested bears were colored other than black.
Roger Krantz harvested the spring’s largest bear. A Massive 20 7/8”, 450 pound, 7’9” giant that had eluded us for 2 years.
Mike Thomas put a great pair for bears on the ground. A seven foot black bear and an awesome 6 and a half foot Cinnamon.
Rod Hollier and Mike Derouen both pulled off the perfect double. Rod with a big black and a nice brown and Mike with a 7’ brown and 6 and a half foot black.
Few places in North America provide hunters with the opportunity at Bears of this quality.
Tim Peloso harvested a great Pope & Young trophy with Veteran guide Jamie Langlois after 4 nights of being selective and waiting for a true trophy bear.
Gus Congemi took 2 great bears as well as a wolf with his bow. A feat few people with Bow and arrow tackle have accomplished.
We are presently 50% booked for 2009 but still have openings in all the 4 weeks available below:
